My Personal Statement

Frank Lloyd Wright once said, “You have to go wholeheartedly into anything in order to achieve anything worth having.” College is not about going to class and listening to the professor speak, learning many new things, and forgetting them after the test; it is the chance to train my mind.

Not only do I want to get my credits and my degree, I want to use this experience to grow as a person and discover my true potential. When I graduate from college four years from now, I want to have the means to say that I am educated. I want to solve problems, to be the one who people seek for advice. I seek to learn the mind of an innovator, the skills of a technician, but most importantly, I want to keep sight of myself. I hope to achieve many accomplishments during college, and to be someone that the seventeen-year-old version of myself would be proud of. I perceive education as a person’s most valuable asset. However, this statement could have many meanings depending on my personal definition of “education.”

Everything that I learn, I can apply, even if it feels like a never-ending mathematical formula that looks like it has no purpose; it helps my mind grow and my imagination thrive. Keeping this into consideration, my educational goals are to prosper in the skills that I have and the knowledge I learn and use them to be someone that is worth remembering. Even though I am so passionate about my education, I feel very limited to the schools I can apply to and the degree that I can earn. I have the huge obstacle of payment. I come from a low-income Hispanic family. In fact, the big reason we came to the United States was for the promises of having a better life, and I dream to be able to graduate college debt-free. I won’t allow this obstacle to ruin my dream, as no matter what, I will have a college education and become someone important to society. No matter what challenges I face, I will always keep my main goal in mind and in the end, all the hard work and determination will pay off!
